Trident Processes has been selected as the nutrient recovery technology provider for a new Farm Powered® anaerobic digestion facility in Salisbury, VT. Construction is under way for Vanguard Renewables’ new biogas facility at Goodrich Family Farm’s 900-cow dairy. After the expected completion in Q3 2020, the facility will process 280 tons/day of manure and organic waste into renewable natural gas (RNG). Trident’s nutrient recovery system will process the digestate, and extract nutrients and clarified water. The system is designed to produce 50,000 gal of treated water every day. It will also help manage the phosphorus levels on the farm’s land.

Kerry Doyle, CEO of Trident Processes: “Traditional manure storage and handling is a big expense for dairy farms, and it presents substantial environmental risks. Nutrient recovery is a key tool for watershed and soil conservation and we are excited to work with Vanguard Renewables and Goodrich dairy to help make their vision a reality.”

Shawn Conley, Sales Director at Trident continues, “Nutrient recovery is very effective in reducing nonpoint source agricultural waste discharges. The dairy will be able to better utilize nutrients specifically to the needs of their land and reduce the reliance on chemical fertilizers.”

“With the Goodrich Farm being on Lake Champlain watershed nutrient management became an essential part of this project., says Sol Ucciani, Development Manager, Vanguard Renewables. ”We did a thorough analysis of available options and vendors and Trident’s DAF system was the one that best fits this project. Because both companies are focused on improving sustainability and reducing nutrient loads in the best possible way our strategies and values align.

Trident became known for its innovative manure treatment technologies, when it installed the first automated nutrient recovery system on a dairy farm in North America about five years ago. The Salisbury nutrient recovery system will be the latest addition to a long list of projects; all with a common goal of striving for zero waste agriculture.
